DENVER – Oilman Dick Cheney is in Colorado today to raise campaign cash for his Big Oil buddy Bob Schaffer in Grand Junction. It’s no surprise that Dick Cheney and Bob Schaffer would be standing side-by- side, and on the side of Big Oil, pulling in record profits while Americans continue to struggle with the sky-rocketing gas prices. They certainly haven’t been standing on the side of Coloradans.
Both Bob Schaffer and Dick Cheney have a long history of supporting Big Oil over their constituents, and then receiving large paychecks from Big Oil in return. After six years in Congress supporting Big Oil, including voting to give them $28 million in tax cuts, Bob Schaffer cashed in his favors for a six-figure job as an oil and gas executive. So far, Schaffer’s big oil paychecks have totaled nearly $1 million. Cheney continues to receive a seven-figure Big Oil paycheck from Halliburton -- even while serving as Vice-President.
“Bob Schaffer and Dick Cheney together is a picture worth a thousand words,” said Pat Waak, Chair of the Colorado Democratic Party. “Just like Dick Cheney, Bob Schaffer has spent his career standing on the side of special interests, whether it’s boosting his Big Oil buddies or trading favors with Jack Abramoff. With soaring gas prices for consumers and record profits for Big Oil, Coloradans need a Senator who will fight on their side.”
